This is total win. I think I need to re-read Pride & Prejudice again without having to worry about doing badly on quizzes. Maybe then I'll enjoy it more. (I also want to re-read To The Lighthouse. & Brave New World, which I already re-read once this summer. Why do I have sudden Brit Lit urges? THERE ARE NO URGES!)

We have our Christmas tree up now. It's an artificial tree because what with the power being out for most of the past week & all the ice and snow, we decided that we weren't going to go with a real tree this year. Except my mum got a Yankee Candle plug-in scent that smells like pine trees, so it still seems like we have a real tree. Speaking of Christmas spirit, I found the Yankee Swap CD that I got last year, and I promptly loaded it onto my computer because I forgot how awesome it is. Most Christmas music drives me absolutely insane after a while (especially when it's been playing non-stop on the radio for a month), but I discovered that if there was one kind of Christmas music that I could listen to all year long, it would be the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. "The Nutcracker Suite" is total win. Because I mean, the Nutcracker with electric guitar? That's pretty awesome.

There's a new trailer for season five of Lost. It is so *spazzflail*-inducing. Because there is a dark hooded figure and someone set on fire! (Organization XIII and Anakin Skywalker are invading the island!) & Angsty!Sawyer! & general badassery! & there's only one month and two days left until the premiere! (At least after Christmas I'll have the season four DVD set to hold me over.)

I've realized that all of the three books that I'm reading right now have a character named Lily in them. In The Giver the main character has a younger sister named Lily, in To The Lighthouse there is a character named Lily who hasn't really done much except paint, and in Harry Potter and the Capslock Rage of Doom Order of the Phoenix there is, of course, Harry's mother Lily, who makes an appearance in "Snape's Worst Memory." Maybe I should watch some How I Met Your Mother to go along with this Lily theme, as there is a character on that show (who, incidentally, is also an artist).

Speaking of To The Lighthouse, I've realized that my current writing project could easily turn into a Soalis Island version of To The Lighthouse if it was a lot more stream-of-consciousness-ish. But it's not going to be like that because it's essentially a frame story; the bulk of the story is events in Perrin's life that he's retelling to Sari and Keira. I'm thinking of having less of a distant third person point of view, though, because I feel as if more of Perrin's thoughts need to be shown. The only problem is that for the majority of the events Perrin is only a wee child, so I'd have to worry about his thoughts being too complex for a six-year-old. But I suppose if six-year-old  James Ramsay can think about wanting to kill his father, then Perrin can have interesting thoughts too. And speaking of comparisons to To The Lighthouse, I've decided that Perrin's father kind of is like Mr. Ramsay. Except Evren (finally got a name for him, yay!) is not a philosopher and he doesn't wander around reciting poetry at the top of his lungs. But other than that, they seem to be similar. If Mr. Ramsay ends up hating outsiders and leaving the family, I'm going to start to believe that I'm a reincarnation of Virginia Woolf. Except you can actually understand my writing on the first readthrough. (No, that was not a burn. *shifty*)

The Juno soundtrack is full of amusement. Some of the lyrics are just so randomly funny. It makes me giggle.

Another thing that makes me giggle is The Importance of Being Serious Earnest. (The crossed-out Serious is a reference to [info]shoebox_project, when Remus is having sexual literary dreams about Sirius. It's one of my favorite parts ever.) It's amusing, which is a first when it comes to things read in Brit Lit (I'm not counting the strange glee that I get from angsty!Heathcliff). Of course, there's other amusements outside of class, such as Alix's secret love for Mr. Cullity, but I'm not going to go into that.

Also? I started a new writing project, which I affectionately call Writing Is Fun! I realized on Sunday that writing for me lately has been almost like a chore, so I've started this new project that is designed to be very laid-back and not, you know, causing brain-hurt. (I'm not allowed to touch the "Word Count" button for this. I've discovered that I have an unhealthy relationship with Word Count.) But for this project, I have to find a name for Perrin's father pretty damn fast. At least I've come up with a surname for him (Cloudchaser, which I unashamedly admit is taken from the name of one of the gummi ship songs in KHII), which makes Aurin even more out of the question for him because then I'd be referencing two Final Fantasy characters (Auron and Cloud) in one name and that's not good. So now I have to come up with a better name.

Well. I've got to get ready for dance in 15 minutes and I still have stuff to do =/ I'll end with some Juno soundtrack lyrics: "I like my new bunny suit / I like my new bunny suit / I like my new bunny suit / When I wear it I feel cute."

[ETA: I have a blister on my toe and it's annoying. *sulk* And my feet also feel their normal Tuesday-night pain that comes after dancing barefoot for two hours. Tuesday dance can be hellish sometimes. Also, I think I'm going to change my layout again. I have layout ADD, I think]

reason #81480 why latin is the Best Language Ever: "one-winged angel" (aka sephiroth's theme from "kingdom hearts" and "final fantasy vii") is in LATIN. this is a very cool thing. (i always assumed it was in japanese because the company that makes the games is somewhat japanese & the theme songs for the "kingdom hearts" games are originally in japanese.) mind you, i can't understand what's being said half the time, but whatever. when i found the lyrics and discovered that they were latin, one of the parts goes "veni, veni, (something or other)." of course, when i was doing a synopsis of "venire" on my latin test this morning, this causes "one-winged angel" to immediately pop into my head. it's very hard to do a latin test while suspenseful music is blasting through my head. oh, and while i'm talking about suspenseful music, "night on bald mountain" (from "kingdom hearts," though it's originally from fantasia) is my favorite suspenseful instrumental piece of music at the moment. it would make an awesome piece of ballet music except for the fact that there aren't any clear counts. "moonlight serenade" from pirates of the caribbean, on the other hand, makes an awesome piece of ballet music and it has counts =) oh, and also, "showdown at hollow bastion" from the "kingdom hearts ii" soundtrack makes awesome suspenseful movie music. i've used it twice in my "making mini-movies involving the downfall of anakin skywalker" exploits.

i have so many books that i want to read right now. i have to finish eclipse before isabella eats me, and then i have to finish re-reading the amber spyglass. after that, i want to re-read the uglies/pretties/specials series before i read extras (which is slightly problematic because i don't own pretties, but i'm sure i can work that out somehow. i also need to procure a copy of extras, but i believe i put that on my birthday list that i informally gave you lot). then i want to re-read the city of ember and the people of sparks. after that, showing how i am incredibly geeky, i want to re-read the star wars: revenge of the sith novelization that i think i like even better than the movie version. it's just so awesome and shiny. so yeah. that's what i want to read. so many books, so little time. take your time. don't be afraid. the door is still shut.

i found a death cab for cutie cd in my brother's room. i want to commandeer it to put it on my itunes, but kirjava has decided that she doesn't like death cab for cutie. she likes star wars: revenge of the sith, though. she also likes the disks of my old writing, so i am now able to go back and laugh at my second draft of "the power of light."

so you know how i was pissed off at ffextreme.com for allowing me to download the japanese version of "simple and clean" (called "hikari") with me thinking it was the english version? well, i've now grown to love it, even though i can't understand what the words are. the fact that it's the version from the beginning of the game (the fast, almost techno version) is a huge plus. i like to rock out to it. (that being said, i can rock out to almost anything. including "wonderwall," which according to andrew and isabella is not a "rocking out" song.)

i got a signed copy of mr. king's book today. he was having a book signing at river run today, so my mom and i went over once she was done at st. pats. i started reading it. it's pretty good, even though it's more of a 5th/6th grade reading level book. but hey, it's a nice break from macbeth. (oh, and for those of you who think it's pathetic that i've been working on the power of light for 3 years: mr. king said that he worked on his book for 7 years. and then there's j.k. rowling, who started working on the harry potter books in 1990, and the first one wasn't published until 1997. so there.)

speaking of j.k. rowling, my mom's friend & her daughter are going to new york city this weekend for a j.k.r. book signing. apparently they won some contest. i'm so jealous.

[EDIT #1: wow, the file for "passion" (aka kingdom hearts II theme song) is very huge. 9.42 MB and it's still downloading. of course, i downloaded the "after the battle" (aka end of the game, i believe) version, so that's probably why. i have the instrumental version for the opening version.]

[EDIT #2: it took 35 minutes to download. =| and of course it's in japanese and is very slow-paced. oh well. it will probably end up growing on me. and of course the fact that it's in japanese makes it sound even more like "i caught fire" in reverse =) ]

Quote of the Day:

"I tried to exploit the power of darkness, but it backfired. I fell into the darkness and couldn't find the light."

anybody want a fear of failure/extreme frustration when you can't do something? i'll gladly give you mine. you don't even have to play for it. it'll be free.

but seriously, yesterday and today there have been times in which i can't do something and i get frustrated and angry with myself because i want to be able to do it. and all the while i'm angry at myself for getting worked up about because i know that nobody's perfect and no one can do everything. so then i'm exasperated.

i do, however, have two happy things to say:

1. i'm most definitely using "nuin" for the thoswodawnian government. it will be called "the Nuin." thank you, summer.
2. i found the name to my "mystery song." basically, on a cd that deanna burned for me at the end of 8th grade, there was one song for which she forgot to write down the title & artist, so i couldn't put it on my ipod (because i didn't want a song called "track 18" floating around). but i looked up part of the lyrics to it right now, and i found it. that makes me happy, because it's a pretty good song.

also, i realized that "rockstar" by nickelback sends very positive messages to the youth. "hey kids! become rockstars and you'll be addicted to drugs and sex! yay!" that song was stuck in my head for the longest time because last night on the way home from ballet katy was blasting it when it came on the radio. i felt a certain sense of doom as she was blasting the song at full volume while barreling down 236 at 10mph over the speed limit =|

i have also made amazing comparisons when it comes to macbeth. first, macbeth=scar because macbeth's goal in life is to kill duncan to become the king, while scar's goal in life is to kill mufasa to become king. also, duncan=dumbledore because for both of them, their greatest flaws are being too trusting.

Can Isabella guess from where I got my subject title? (Notice how I didn't end that question with "from" because "A preposition is something you should never end a sentence with.")

A random thing that annoys me: rhyming campaign posters. I've seen ones that are incredibly cheesy that make me want to rip them off the lockers/walls and burn them. (A dumb blonde moment that I had today involved me walking down sophomore hallway, and, thinking that it was senior hallway, wondering why seniors had sophomore SAB posters on their lockers.)

Coffeehouse tonight! But sorry, you non-STA people can't come unless you pose as someone's immediate family members.

There's no more Lost until fricking February! But the finale Wednesday night was pretty darn awesome. I almost cried when Charlie died; it was so heroic. (Sorry if anyone didn't want the spoiler, but whatever.) And so last night I made a list of my 10 favorite episodes of Lost, and 6 of them ended up coming from season 3, which is pretty good, considering the third season didn't really get interesting until around March. Number one, of course, on the list is "One of Us," a Juliet episode from April.

You can tell that I am bored all the time. But I have been reading a lot of books lately, and I think that at the end of the month I am going to post a list of all the books I read this month here (which might be a small list compared to Isabella, for example, but I realized that I /have/ read a lot of books this month).

There's no quote of the day today because the transcript for "Through the Looking Glass" isn't up yet and I don't know the exact wording of the quote I want to use from that episode. Oh, but that quote just reminded me of another that I can use.

Quote of the Day:

So there's this girl in the Ballet 2B class that I help with who drives me completely insane. Seriously, I should videotape her before class and watch it for sick kicks. Like today, everyone else was sitting and spread out waiting for class to begin like they were told, and this girl is just prancing around in place singing some song that the jazz class was dancing to upstairs and saying, "I love jazz. Next year I want to take jazz. I love jazz" and I felt like yelling at her to sit down and be quiet, but I'm not quite a yelling person when it comes to teaching.

Oh, and in other ballet 2B news: the class are carousel dancer thingies in the ballet, and so until Cheryl has a pole for them to dance around, I get to be the pole. Which means I get to get practically strangled by ribbons every Thursday for twenty or so minutes. But yeah it's pretty funny, because they haven't quite mastered how to stay equally spaced in a circle yet, and that's how I end up almost strangled.

I only have one more midterm left =) I probably should be working on my outline for the essay part of my English tomorrow, but I can do other things first 'cause I'm terribly lazy like that.

So I finished reading the fourth Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book last night. It was really good, but the end is kind of sad... but I was happy because Tibby and Brian got back together. (yeah I know I'm totally spoiling things here, but they're "on a break" for most of the book... and when I read that part when Tibby said that they should take a break I laughed for like five minutes because all I could think of was the running joke about how Ross and Rachel were "on a break" on Friends). Oh, and to spoil things even more, I think every pants sister person except Carmen ends up having sex by the end of the book. Yeah.

Clarisse, I would like to borrow the second book in the Uglies series from you sometime =)

WOOHOO IT'S THE "PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER" SONG!

Quote of the Day:

"Sup with the whack PlayStation sup?"
--Joey, from an episode of Friends
