I've realized that I don't use this userpic very often and now I'm wondering why that is because it's a very pretty userpic, probably one of my favorites that I've created. (Though the rainbow gradient flare is a little much, but especially when I first started using GIMP I was all LOL GRADIANT FLARE YAY!)

I'm in the mood to list things off so here are some of my ramblings.

ten things about my life, some of which no one cares about )
Uh, yeah, pardon my rambling. I think I'm going to be productive now and finish my Roaring Twenties packet for history.

Reason #924830 why I am not an intelligent person:

I just went downstairs to claim the internet for the night. It's dark but I don't think of turning a light on (there's the beginning of the problem right there). I walk into the trashcan, knocking in over. I almost walk into a pole. I go over to my mum's computer to find the internet NOT THERE. I have kind of a blinky moment, and then somebody turns a light on, and I'm all "WHERE'S THE INTERNET?" and Andrew's just like "Looking for this?" and gives it to me. Apparently he was going to give it to me upstairs but I went downstairs before he had the chance. But y'know, he could have given it to me when he came upstairs a few moments earlier, because I was quite clearly on the Playstation in the playroom, but no, he had to send me on an expedition in the darkness. Meanwhile there's popcorn kernals spilled all over the floor from when I knocked over the trashcan, so of course I have to pick all of those up while wishing that I had a lot more common sense.

(On a brighter note, I just totally slaughtered a boss in FFX that took me about 25 attempts to beat during my first playthrough. Quick-Hit and Doublecasted Flare FTW!)
mickey mouse
I switched up my userpics again because I have a short attention span. They're almost all yoinked icons now, if you haven't noticed, because making my own with Paint seems so insignificant now after having worked with Photoshop. (Want a gift idea for my next birthday? Photoshop please!)

Well, what's new with me. I got accepted to the St. Paul's Advanced Studies summer program, which means that I'll be gone for the second half of June and all of July. I'm taking a class on Ancient Greece, which was my third choice I think but should still be fun. But don't fear, I will be around in August.

I also finally managed to trim down my junior speech to under three minutes (it clocks in at around 2:40, which is very good because now I don't have to worry about going over the time limit). It took so long to edit it down (I ended up having to cut about two minutes out of it, after having it be over four and a half minutes when I read it in class for the first time), so I'm rather proud of this. I read it for my family today and they liked it (except my mum was all, "You use such big words! What does misanthropic mean?" and I'm like, *facepalm*). So yeah.

I really hope my brother isn't using the Playstation right now because I've been having major Final Fantasy X nostalgia moments lately and I kind of want to go on my partial file which is somewhat towards the end of the game and play just for the heck of it.

dear ffviii: why do you abuse those poor apostrophes? )

I've also realized that my dreams could make awesome crossover crack fics. I had a dream two nights ago that managed to be a crossover between Lost, Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, and Final Fantasy VIII. (Basically, it involved the Oceanic Six hiding out in Stars Hollow to escape from Voldemort and the Death Eaters, and Laguna was Kate's son.) That would make for an amazing crack fic, yeah?

[ETA: There's a new Lost promo and ZOMG DESMOND/PENNY BABY!]

Perrin and Julia keep being intimate in my head. I am not pleased. Get a room, kids. (Actually, they're not really kids, because they're 19-ish when they begin to get intimate-like, but whatever.)

I downloaded the opening FMV to Final Fantasy VIII (on my mum's computer because downloads go SO MUCH FASTER with her internet connection) and I have only two words: Freakin'. Epic. I think "Liberi Fatali" has a lot to do with its epicness, but still. Squall and Seifer dueling = awesome. (A side note: Seifer from FFVIII always reminds me of Draco Malfoy. I have no idea why. Actually, I can see why, what with his attitude and his appearance somewhat. That's him in my userpic for reference.)

So as it's November and NaNoWriMo I feel as if I should get some writing in. For me I think it's not going to be as much as National Novel Writing Month as National Get Perrin and Co. Off The Freakin' Island Month. Of course, once I actually get them off the island I'll probably hit a wall too because they'll be tedious things like "Look, it's Coreon!" and traveling by rail-car and such. Hopefully things will begin to pick up once they get to Arx Chalybs and we meet Antares. I've decided that Antares is somewhat of a cross between Daniel Faraday and Sephiroth, which is a really unlikely combination but it works. He's got Faraday's mad scientist bit, minus the adorkable-ness, plus Sephiroth's somewhat psychotic-ness and a habit of killing characters who don't deserve to die. Yeah. It's going to be interesting trying to portray Antares as a not-entirely-villain. Because he's a good person, really. He just has a few issues, like the inability to let go of grudges.

Well, I've got to go check the election results so far. Last time I checked things were pretty close, in that Obama was ahead for a while and then I turned away for a few seconds and McCain was then ahead. Should be interesting.

Gahh. I want my paid account back. I have so many pretty icons, but only six can be used at a time. It makes me sad.

I've decided that the best thing that I've ever downloaded is most of the ending video from Final Fantasy VIII. It is so awesome, especially because it includes the scene that inspired the end of "Traveler." It also features the song "Eyes on Me," which is a really nice song (and it actually has in-game significance, yay!). I also have instrumental and piano versions of the song on RealPlayer, and after hearing the vocal version, I've come to appreciate the instrumental versions more. Also, the FMV graphics are amazing for a game released in 1999 - they're almost as good as the FMV graphics of Final Fantasy X (even though the quality isn't that great on the version I downloaded - but I guess I was lucky to get a nearly five-minute video that's smaller than 5 MB, since I hate when things take up lots of space on my computer). So yes, I have become somewhat obsessed with this. But it's AWESOME.

I've also started re-doing part two of "Across the Ocean" (finally titled it, except I've been too lazy to change the actual file name so far). It was sad, having to remove 30 pages of stuff that just does not work, and I have a feeling what with the new world travel system and all, things will get even more complicated. But hopefully I won't end up hitting a brick wall like I did before.

Also, note to self: do not let Perrin become Squall. This would not be a good thing, even though I do find Squall's angst strangely endearing. Perrin does not equal Squall. Also, Julia does not equal Rinoa. I must not let her become Rinoa.
mickey mouse

GAHHH. I hate when people decide to mill about the kitchen when I'm trying to do stuff online. >:( At least Andrew will be leaving soon, so that I can start using his room for my Internet connection once more. It'll make life so much easier. (or maybe I should know better than to go online between 5:00 and 7:00.)

I did the ending of FFX again today and completely destroyed both forms of the final boss (well, the final one where there's a risk of dying, because after that you're in perpetual Auto-Life status). One hit on the first form, and two hits on the second form, and it was DEAD. This made me laugh, considering how much trouble the final boss initially gave me. After all the Original Creations at the Monster Arena, the pitiful 120,00 HP of "Braska's Final Aeon" is such a pushover. Anyway, I've decided that I'm pretty much done with FFX now, since many of Tidus's stats are completely maxed out and I've got Auto-Protect/Auto-Shell/Break HP Limit armor for everyone (well, "everyone" as in Auron, Tidus, and Yuna, the only three characters I use anymore). The only thing left for me to do, really, is to capture 10 of every monster so that I can unlock Nemesis, but I don't have the patience to do that. Other than that, there's nothing to do but be generally dominating, and that gets tiring after a while. Now I'll just have to be video game-deprived until I have an excuse to get FFVIII, which probably won't be until around Christmastime anyway, since school will start again. (but yay for FFVIII because Squall is awesome, even if he is a bit loner/emoish.)

I'm beginning to panic just a little about the amount of summer work that I still have left to do, especially because I returned to The Scarlet Letter again today and had to read the first two pages that I started with about four times to understand it. I still have to take notes on quite a few chapters of that, plus watch the three movies, plus read The Origins of American Slavery. And I have quite a busy week this week. Gahh.

... Yeah, I think I'm going to get off now because my mum is still milling about and talking about my dance bag and watershoes, and I'm really not in the mood to sit around trying to be online when she's doing said milling about.

mickey mouse
So apparently now I can only write when it's after midnight. It's all fine and dandy now, but it's not going to work very well when I can't sleep in past 10:00 like now. But seriously, before midnight I'll look at the scene that I've been working on and have no idea what to do with it, but after midnight I can look at it and figure out what'll come next, and I'll say to myself, "Okay, I'll write up into *insert part here* tonight," and that usually takes me right up till 2 AM and gives my "music obtained in late july" playlist a chance to play all the way through. Anyway, I'm at 5,852 words, which means that I'm about halfway through if I anticipate ~10,000 words for the whole project. That's not bad at all for about seven hours of work, which also includes distractions such as the dictionary, Word's thesaurus, "You Can Call Me Tommy," the Final Fantasy VIII script, The Shoebox project, pacing around my room, and rocking out to "Barracuda."

Last night I was playing on my awesome file of FFX (because I have two files, my awesome file and my normal file, but my normal file's no fun anymore because I've gotten past the epic love scene of Yuna and Tidus and now I'm starting to get to the point where stuff is actually hard), and just for giggles, I thought I'd equip Kimahri (who I haven't really used since the beginning of the game because I find him pretty useless once you've got Auron in your party) with a Triple AP weapon and go do some leveling up in the Omega Ruins, where most of the enemies give out a lot of experience. He ended up gaining 67 Sphere Levels after using him in five or six battles. And the even funnier thing is that even with all that leveling up, his stats are still crappy (but that's comparing him to Auron, Tidus, and Yuna, the characters I normally use on that file, who have pretty awesome stats).

Also, I'm fairly certainthat I didn't get the good grammar/vocabulary gene from my dad, because he and my mom were playing Scrabble yesterday and he doubted that "yours" was a word. I was very indignant, as was my mom. When told that it was a possessive, as in "this pen is yours," my dad replied, "But doesn't it have an apostrophe in it?" *facepalm*
mickey mouse
I started a new mini-writing project last night because I've become a bit frustrated with my other writing project. I swear it's all because of the introduction of a certain character, because once I introduced her in "The Power of Light" everything got screwed up too. So I'm thinking of moving her introduction to another spot and redoing the last few pages so that things don't lead up to her introduction, but I really don't have the energy to do so right now. I wish I could just eliminate all of the plot from "The Power of Light" from the project, but the end result of that plotline is so important to everything else that I can't just get rid of it. It's so annoying.

Anyway, this new writing project is more short-story-like (it's not divided into chapters, at least) and probably won't be any longer than 10,000-12,000 words. I unashamedly admit that it's heavily inspired by the Laguna flashback sequences of "Final Fantasy VIII" because I just love the dynamics between Laguna, Raine, and Ellone. So I've created almost the same dynamic with a minor character from my other writing project, Lukas, and two other characters that I came up with last night. I'm really pleased with how it's going - I was up until 3 AM last night writing and I got to almost 3,000 words, and I've written another page and a half today. I know exactly how it's going to end, too, which I suppose is a good thing.

And speaking of FFVIII, I've realized that Squall says (well, thinks) some words that would be very helpful to amateur fantasy writers: "Right and wrong are not what separate us and our enemies. It's different standpoints, our persepectives that separate us. Both sides blame one another. There's no good or bad side. Just two sides holding different views." See? It's not always about good and evil. Just because you're in conflict with someone doesn't mean that they're evil. It's just because you have different point of  views. *imitates Palpatine* Good is a point of view, Anakin...

Yep, that and "Villains are people too!" are my main pet peeves when it comes to things involving good vs. evil. Because, you know, ordinary life isn't always good vs. evil. You don't always know who the "good guys" are.

(Probably already done this subject title, but I love it so I'm using it again.)

I just spent an hour and twenty minutes re-alphabetizing the videos at the library. My brain is kind of dead. (See, Bella? They don't give me cool jobs to do all of the time.) Thankfully, I wrote most of this entry last night when I was in a Comparison/Conspiracy Theory mood. That is a dangerous mood for me to be in, as you'll soon see from the rest of this entry.

Because I've given up on re-reading the Final Fantasy VII script again (because once you get to the middle of Disc 2, things just start to get a little confusing/ridiculous), I've instead decided to delve into the Final Fantasy VIII script, which has its own share of confusing ridiculousness (I remember my first time reading it, and all of a sudden they were in outer space and Rinoa was a sorceress and I was like "WTF IS GOING ON HERE?" and suddenly getting visions of when they go into outer space in Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator) But at least Squall is a normal person, not like the main characters of VII and X (in which Cloud is a failed Sephiroth clone and Tidus is a "dream of the fayth"). And if I were a Final Fantasy character I would probably be Squall, except with a little less angst (he has thoughts very similar to Harry idea of "the more you care about, the more you have to lose" in the OotP movie).

Anyway, FFVIII features lots of time-traveling type events, and I can't help but see the similarities between the time-travel of FFVIII and Lost.

Also? I'm in the process of sporking the second draft of "The Power of Light" (I'd love to do the first draft, because I think it's much more spork-worthy, but it's not typed up and there is no way that I'm going to go through the pain of typing up that abomination word-for-word just so that I can mock it) with the help of Karis (because sporkers often employ characters of existing fandoms or their own characters to help in the sporkage). It's been a lot of fun; I might later post it (or bits of it) here. I'm especially excited because I just fit in one of my favorite How I Met Your Mother references: "We are International Businessmen on a lucrative trip to Japan!" I also make a Princess Consuela Bananahammock reference and multiple references to Lost, Final Fantasy X, and Harry Potter. I mainly do the references and other miscellaneous stuff (including turning a fight scene into a poorly-written sex scene), while Karis questions the general logic of things and laments how much the story rapes her universe (because it was written before I really came up with good world travel/interworld contact).

Speaking of sporking, I was shelving Eldest at the library today and I was thinking that somebody should seriously do a spork of that and Eragon. I have a feeling that would be very amusing.

mickey mouse

Well, the good State of Maine has granted me a driver's license. I don't know how the hell it happened, because I was 100% positive that I'd end up failing, but somehow it happened. The driving gods are on my side! Except it doesn't really help me that much because a.) I don't have my own car b.) my parents at the moment will only let me drive to dance, the library, and maybe Isabella's house and c.) I won't be able to drive anyone until January. But it's still a license. Even though it won't be a real photo ID license for a few weeks. But whatever.

Also, as a general note that nobody cares about because it's FFX-related: 255 turns for a boss is a REALLY long time. Therefore, no matter how easy it may sound, do NOT use Death Sentence on an Original Creations boss in the Monster Arena. Use Aeons instead because Aeons are full of general win.

this night's a perfect shade of dark blue

So the layout's working now, except the alignment's not quite right, but I think it's supposed to be that way. Oh well.

Now? On to my deep analysis crap that I wrote last night that probably nobody cares about

So I'm fairly certain that some aspects of "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories" were borrowed from "Final Fantasy VII..

... And between this and the work I'm doing on my current writing project with Keira and her memory that was the target of Eltanin's experiments in memory-altering, I'm really getting sick of the word "memory."

I've decided that "The Drugs Don't Work" by the Verve could be Future!Jack's theme song on Lost...

Today's also the one-year anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'm going to celebrate by displaying three of JKR's ridiculously written sentences from HP&DH. First we have "Water filled Harry's eyes and mouth: He could not see or breathe: Then, with an awful lurch, the cart flipped over and they were all thrown out of it." There are a couple of things wrong with this. First, although I don't think it's exactly incorrect, I hate her habit in her later books of connecting sentences together with colons, especially because she capitalizes the first letter of the second sentence, which I'm pretty sure is incorrect. Secondly, why the hell does she connect THREE sentences in this way? Especially when two of them are rather short and choppy? Why couldn't she have just said, "Water filled Harry's eyes and mouth, and he could not see or breathe. Then, with an awful lurch, the cart flipped over and they were all thrown out of it." It would have eliminated a lot of unnecessary colons. Then she later decides to combine three sentences again: "He spotted Ginny two tables away; she was sitting with her head on her mother's shoulder: There would be time to talk later, hours and days and maybe years in which to talk." She actually used a semi-colon this time, but then she has to ruin it by tacking on another sentence, connected by a colon. Bad JKR, bad! The third sentence includes more absurd colon usage: "One shivering second of silence, the shock of the moment suspended: and then the tumult broke around Harry as the screams and the cheers and the roars of the watchers rent the air." Yes, I know that Voldemort's just been defeated, so maybe she should be granted a bit of creative grammatical license to convey the Drama (which is why I won't comment on all the "and's"), but that colon should NOT be there. A simple comma would have sufficed, damn it.

Despite all of JKR's failures with HP&DH, however, there are still some redeeming moments.

- "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" (Molly Weasley FTW!)
- Hero!Neville cutting off Nagini's head and all that.
- The whole chapter "The Prince's Tale." I cannot tell you how much I adore that chapter.
- Remus and Tonks getting married and having a baby. Of course, that was pretty much ruined when they got KILLED OFF ;_; I don't think I've ever been angrier about a character death (or two characters' deaths, in this case).

Oh, and I have to say that the chapter when Harry's in between life and death on the Farplane in King's Cross, I couldn't help but think of a badfic that I read (well, actually, I just read the sporked version over at deleterius) about Female!Harry stuck on Luna's Astral Plane of Love where s/he experienced constant orgasms (yes, that did scare me away from the fic). My FFX brain also immediately thought "ZOMG IT'S UNSENT!HARRY!" Because, you know, he was caught between life and death...

Okay, analysis!brain has been shut off. It needs to be put to use on The Scarlet Letter now.

mickey mouse
So this week I'm helping with dance camp for 3-10 year olds, and I'm in charge of 10 three- to five-year-olds, and although they are extremely cute most of them have no attention spans whatsoever. I'm already sick of saying "You'll see your mom soon!" and "Go sit/stand over there!" and I still have four days left.

I'm re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows right now and have found delight in the fact that one of the Latin spells seems to be incorrect. The spell is Homenum revelio, described by Hermione as a spell to reveal human presence. The problem? "Homenum" is an incorrect declension of homo, meaning human; it should be "hominem," since it's a singular, accusative, third-declension noun. So not only is the ending wrong, the base is wrong as well. "Revelio" is also incorrect; the correct verb should be "revelo," meaning "I uncover." So either JKR really messed up on her Latin or it was deliberately supposed to be wrong. (At least it's not as bad as some of those self-made spells used by fanfiction authors; one particular horrible one I've come across is Reverso mio sexio. The correct Latin would be Inverto meum sexum, darling, and why the hell do wizards need a spell to change their genders? Why can't they do it Cloud-style and run around gathering various items of "sexy" womanly attire?) /Latin geek, with a bit of "Final Fantasy VII" geek thrown in at the end

Speaking of "Final Fantasy VII," I've obtained a much better version of the game script, which I've been reading and quite enjoying. Once I've exhausted being positively badass at "Final Fantasy X" (my Yuna is pretty much pwnage, which is spelled S-A-Y-I-D J-A-R-R-A-H, because she can cause 50,000-80,000 damage per turn with her black/holy magic, knows pretty much every white magic spell in the game, can summon aeons such as Anima, who is pretty much victory in the form of a butt-ugly fish-mummy thing; can cause 10,000-20,000 damage per turn with physical attacks, AND has fairly high defense and evasion to boot!), I think I'd really like to get my grubby little hands on "Final Fantasy VII" because it seems like it will suck in my soul once I stop laughing at its inevitably bad graphics (though apparently they're extremely good for a game released in 1997). There are a few sketchy parts in it, though (like when Aerith and Cloud have to go into sketchy prostitute land to save Tifa - with Cloud dressed up as a girl!), and then of course there's Cid (the same Cid from the "Kingdom Hearts" games) who just loves his colorful expletives. But it also has Sephiroth, who's a frickin' lunatic and has the best ending battle theme song EVER (VENI, VENI, VENIAS! NE ME MORI FACIAS!) which inevitably came into my head whenever I was conjugating "venio" or any io or fourth conjucation subjunctive in Latin this year. And there's also a character named Elena in it, though I swear that I didn't name my character Elena after her. It's just one of those happy coincidences.

Well, this is interesting. I was just looking up Imperio in my Latin dictionary and there is no Latin word "imperio." The closest is "imperito," meaning "I command." Innnnnteresting. I wonder how many other Harry Potter spells are incorrectly Latin (barring Avada Kedavra, which wasn't Latin to begin with, I believe). Well, at least I know that Tergeo, Crucio, Expulso and Accio are correct, since I've already looked those up.

And, not meaning to mock Harry Potter further, but here are some things that I've found amusing so far in HP&DH (this will likely be an ongoing list featured in my next few entries):

Okay, so lj-cut has officially decided to hate my bulleted lists so let's just see how this turns out. Fixed. Yay!

great, the ship sent us another sawyer

I love being able to make author-squeals. I love when I'm able to put in little innocent details that may seem insignificant but really take on a more importnat meaning because of a secret that will be revealed later. I mean, the reader probably won't realize that there's a specific reason why Antares turns to look at Keira at the mention of her name. But I do know that there is a Very Great Significance behind it, because I am the Author Who Knows All. (I wonder if the Lost writers/producers get author-squeals? I certainly would if I was writing for that show.)

Speaking of Lost, I've discovered that they have DOWNLOADABLE EPISODE CLIPS on lost-media.com, which is very exciting. Of course, with my damned dial-up I can only download the smaller files because larger files would take literally half-an-hour, but it is still exciting. Also, more useless junk to fill up my computer :) The only bad part is that most of the files aren't compatible with Windows Movie Maker and Nero Vision Essentials (the latter of which likes to spontaneously combust shut down when I'm trying to add video transitions), so I only have them for my watching enjoyment and not for movie-making purposes.

I was up until midnight on Friday playing "Final Fantasy X." I blame my sudden realization of how relatively easy it is to get Yuna's Celestial Weapon (an "ultimate" weapon with generally kick-ass auto-abilities). Of course, before I actually went and got the weapon all nice and powered up with my shiny Moon Crest and Moon Sigil, I made the mistake of acquiescing to the Monster Arena guy's request of fighting a big, scary monster in honor of Tidus (well, it was actually Auron who did all the dirty work) capturing all twelve fiends from Mt. Gagazet. The result was a 15-minute war of attrition (like the Battle of Verdun!) in which Lulu did endless Doublecasts of Flare and the damn thing still refused to die... and then when it actually did, it decided to spontaneously combust with an Ultima, thus destroying my party as well. But then that allowed me to go off and power up Yuna's "Nirvana" weapon, and now she is all shiny and powerful, able to generally dominate with her ability to deal 15,000-20,000 damage in one hit. Now all I have to do is get her leveled up enough to have Doublecast and I'll basically have no need for Lulu, or anyone else for that matter.

... Yes, this is why I'm going to spend all this week studying for my finals

Lastly, I offer you a Phrase Which Should be Used More Often in Common Conversation:

flaily Muppet hands (noun): a movement of the hands generally distinguished by ridiculous flapping and waving. Some examples of usage: "When Rob had the answer to the Jeopardy question right on the tip of his tongue, he exhibited an amusing display of flaily Muppet hands." "When Desmond saw the helicopter approaching the freighter rigged with explosives, he ran toward it with flaily Muppet hands yelling, 'NO! YOU CAN'T LAND!"

Note: I did not come up with this phrase. I got it from [info]ack_attackand her amusing recaps of Lost, and she probably didn't make it up either.
mickey mouse
Note to self: stay away from sharp objects, because this morning I cut my finger using a scalpel. It was kind of scary experience because it looked worse than it really felt. And, you know, when other people freak out, I freak out. We also did a squid dissection in biology today; needless to say I kept away from the scissors and let Eric cut it open and mutilate the poor thing.

Tonight I plan to beat "Final Fantasy X." I have armed myself with knowledge from various FAQs over at Gamefaqs and I will fight the final boss over and over again until I have turned him to BUG SQUASH. (I'm fully preparing for it to take a while, unless I get extremely lucky.) Then I get to sit and watch the ending, which I'm pretty sure will make me depressed, but whatever.

I've decided that my brain has some sort of aversion to "The Power of Light," because now that I'm up to TPOL material in my writing project, the wanting-to-write switch in my brain has kind of turned off. Even more reasons to send my old series to the Land of Dropped Stories and write more exciting stories with my characters instead. I'm thinking that three novel-ish things will encompass all my major plot stuff. I've decided that I work much better when I only have to deal with one viewpoint (i.e. third person limited POV; in my current project, the action is strictly focused upon what happens around Perrin).

Also, this recap of the season four Lost finale is Full of Win. It totally does not give an accurate summary as to what happened, but So. Amusing.

[EDIT: I've officially completed FFX as of approximately 12 minutes ago. YAY! It on'y took me one attempt against the final major boss too (because it turns out that you have to fight more battles after that, but you automatically have Auto-Life cast on all your characters so there's no possible way you can die). I don't even know how I got through that last important battle. It seemed too easy for some reason. I think the fact that Yuna had Ultima helped me a lot because that stopped any shenanigans like the Yu Pagodas healing the final boss and filling his overdrive meter and such. I didn't even have to haul out the big guns, i.e. the aeon that hits for 45,000 HP with his (her?) overdrive. But yay for beating video games! Though I hate how the credits always have to be so long, especially if the background music choice is the longest version of "Suteki da ne" EVER, and of course it's the version with the Japanese woman singing, which quite frankly scares me. I would've been much more content with the instrumental version, which I love to pieces. Oh well.]

i'm a people person, so i really love it

I know now is not the time to be uploading new icons when I'm going to have to get rid of almost all of them in a week, but after watching the always-awesome opening scene of the season three premiere of Lost I decided I needed a Juliet *facepalm* icon, so I just had to make it. (That episode is called "A Tale of Two Cities," by the way, which is one of two Dickens tie-ins on Lost. The second is Desmond's copy of Our Mutual Friend, which he claims is the last book he's going to read before he dies.)

So last night I thought I would beat "Final Fantasy X;" no use in running around levelling up when most of my characters can deal 9999 damage right now, yeah? But then I realized that final bosses are called final bosses for a reason, and what I expected to be victory instead turned out...
... Yeah, I'm thinking I need a bit more strategy before I attempt that again. Oh, and also? The final boss theme in FFX has got to be the strangest boss theme I've ever come across. Usually final boss themes are all intense and creepy, sometimes with chanting, but this boss theme is a version of this hardcore rock-out song played in the beginning of the game. I was kind of taken aback by it. Oh, and in the area right before the final boss battle, you can find a sword for Tidus named Hrunting. This makes my BritLit!brain squeal with glee.

I've decided to try to incorporate the phrase "We have to go back!" into my writing as much as possible without having it sound weird. I watched the season 3 finale of Lost ("Through the Looking Glass") yesterday and I've decided that this is probably my favorite episode of Lost. Especially watching the Jack flash-forward again with the knowledge we've received thus far in season 4, and all of it causes me to squee with delight at Jack's emo-ness. I find him the most amusing character on the show, which is kind of sadistic of me because he's also the most tormented. But when he's all, "Don't you pity me!" and "We have to go back!" I am filled with strange glee. But "Through the Looking Glass" is a great episode, and it's made me realize how much I've missed Naomi's accent. And Charlie's accent. I miss him :(

I guess I'll see everyone in a few hours, after I do more homeworks as per request of my mother. But then I will come bearing a half-full bag of Reese's Miniatures to share!

This entry has two titles because a.) I have a feeling it's going to be long enough to merit two titles and 2.) because I like both so much, they're somewhat related, and I don't feel like choosing between them.

I'm going to start off by saying that I am so glad that I have the season 4 finale of Lost to watch on June 1st (I'll just forget about my long-standing rage that I cannot watch it live), because that day will otherwise be full of woe and dark pits of depression. First, it'll be the day after the recital so I'll be overtired and filled with woe, and second, because my paid account will have expired so I'm going to have to get rid of 60 userpics (because there's no way I'm going to have a plus account, which can hold 12 userpics; ads bother me and I'm not sure if you can get rid of custom comment pages on plus accounts). It's going to be very hard, narrowing it down to 6 userpics. I have so many pretty ones now!

I am SO INCREDIBLY GLAD that it is a three-day weekend. I've just felt so rushed and stressed and gaahh lately with dance and homework and tests/quizzes and massive reading assignments for A Tale of Two Cities. I'm so thankful for three days to simply sit on my butt, watch Lost, play "Final Fantasy X," write, and read without having to take notes and consult Sparknotes.

My to-do list this Memorial Day weekend:

- laugh at my mom playing Guitar Hero, as she apparently wants to learn how to play. Her reasoning? "Ellen DeGeneres was playing it on her show!"
- collect insects with Sarah
- write my Scripture essay
- write a crapload of my current writing project and not be frightened about having to deal with "The Power of Light" material
- watch the season two and three finales of Lost
-
FFX stuff: get some Level 4 Key Spheres, have Lulu learn Ultima and do other leveling up stuff (since she has something like 14 sphere levels to spend), level up Yuna some more so she can learn Holy and Auto-Life, clear the Baaj Temple area, maybe clear some other optional sidequests, and then maybe consider entering the final area of the game
- get "Peter and the Wolf" music out of my head >:(

Oh, and just a "Final Fantasy X" side-note: the Sphere Theater is the best video game invention EVER. You can go there and buy FMVs that you've seen during the game, which means that after you've bought them you can watch selected scenes from the game as many times as you want. And of course these are the awesome-quality videos that are amazing even if they're just a couple seconds long, and now I can watch the Tidus/Yuna kiss scene as many times as I want without having to go on YouTube!

My biology classroom has been renamed "the zoo," since it is now home to quite a few animals besides just the turtle. Among these are the chicks, who have various names (Clarisse and I call them Lily, Princess Consuela Bananahammock, and Crap Bag). And I've decided that one of the funniest things ever is ParentalInstinct!Eric, especially as he chided Crap Bag for being mean to Lily. Funniest. Thing. Ever. (I've also decided that I would never trust him as my surgeon; we were dissecting grasshoppers yesterday and he was mutilating the poor dead thing, especially its eyeballs.)

And now? On to Lost prattle, placed under a cut for your convenience.

Well, I think that's enough for now. Time to think about going to the coffeehouse tonight, which I think would be fun but I think I'm just too darn lazy to get up and go anywhere. No, I am not anti-social/hermitish; I just like to have nights during which I stay home and do nothing.

you certainly have a way with people

Note to subconcious self: stop having dreams about Clarisse being pregnant. For that matter, don't have dreams about Shaylagh being pregnant either, especially if it's suggested that Mitchell's the father.

I have just encountered what should be labelled the most difficult boss in "Final Fantasy X" (at least up until this point; the final bosses are probably going to be just as hard or harder). It's also the most strategic boss I've ever encountered, because you have to position your party members so the boss's attacks only target one or none of your characters, and if a character is alive on a flashing platform you've got to move him or her before the boss attacks said platform, instantly killing the character. And meanwhile, you've got to actually attack the boss, and just when things start to get easy the boss switches direction and you've got to revive previously KO'd characters while keeping the rest of your party healed as well, and the boss keeps switching direction and counterattacking and soon you've just got one character (for me it always happens to be Auron) who's under Berserk status so he and the boss have counterattack wars and of course you end up losing because you've got fewer hitpoints. And then it's all GAME OVER and I'm all, "Defeating Sin: You're doing it wrong."

boom! like happy festival fireworks, ya?

I wish I was twelve years old again. Why? Because I'd love to do with "Final Fantasy X" what I did with "Kingdom Hearts," aka horribly plagiarizing the storyline for my writing purposes. Except this time I'd do it better, with improved writing skills and no horribly cheesy romance or overuse of ellipses. But sadly, I cannot do this. I am too old, too set in my ways. There is no room in my writing universe for hokey religions and ancient weapons FFX stuff.

I've realized that my entertainment has been throwing me an abnormally large amount of Star Wars references (or quotes that are from or could be from Star Wars) as of late. There's been a few of them in FFX (not counting all the times a character says "So be it" and I immediately think "... Jedi" afterwards). Most noteworthy: Yuna says, "I am a summoner, my lord, like my father before me" at one point in the game, which is almost an exact echo of what Luke says to Palpatine in Return of the Jedi (except exchange "summoner" for "Jedi," obviously). A little later, Seymour (one of the bad guys) says, "I have saved him. He was a man who craved power. And great power he had, but he feared losing it." This is very similar to Palpatine's line to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith: "All who gain power are afraid to lose it." Then there's Lost, which is always rife with Star Wars references/similarities. In Thursday night's episode, Future!Ben says to Future!Sayid, "Once you let your grief become anger, it will never go away." There's not an exact Star Wars quote that corresponds with this, but it definitely sounds Jedi-ish and is almost reminiscient of Yoda's quote from The Phantom Menace: "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

Oh, and I saw the glee-inducing Tidus/Yuna kiss scene in FFX today and therefore have had "Suteki da ne" (the piece of music that plays during the scene) stuck in my head almost constantly. But yay, romance! It makes me eager to get further into my writing project so that I can get to the Sari/Perrin romance scenes that come later. I'm almost finished with the first part, though, the end of which involves ten-year-old emotional-and-filled-with-father-issuesl!Perrin, which will be fun to write. But then I have to sift through all that I have for "The Power of Light" and decide which bits to include, because I know if I don't include events from that it'll be very confusing later. It shouldn't be too bad, though, because everything in this is focused strictly on Perrin's point of view, so I really only need to include the important scenes that Perrin's in. Then I get to write fifteen-year-old emotional-and-filled-with-father-issues!Perrin, which should be even more fun. Then? Enter Sari/Perrin romance. Yay!

... i can has rage?

"Final Fantasy X" has brought me a lot of RAGE lately. I died for the first time yesterday (twice, actually; once against a boss and again against a cactuar, aka a CACTUS OF DEATH), which caused me me to yell, and they could apparently hear me downstairs. Then today I died in a regular battle (though in my defense, it contained some idiots with flamethrowers and a machina that obtains joy from kicking my party members out of the battle), and FFX has this annoying thing that whenever you die you have to begin again from the last time you saved... which for me happened to be before a boss battle. So after I died I had to fight that boss battle AGAIN (but thankfully the boss wasn't one that gave me much trouble) and then go through what seemed like an endless amount of time before reaching the next save point. Then after that I had to go through an extremely complicated Cloister of Trials, and this particular one I've decided is hell in video game form. So then I decided to take a much-needed break, but now I'm on YouTube watching the Tidus/Yuna kiss FMV over and over again because it's just so awesome. It's also coming up soon in the game, yay! (Yes, I do squee excessively at romance. Just not loudly like Shaylagh does while watching Juno.)

.... Well? I think that is it. Sorry for boring you, but I need an outlet for my RAGE. Otherwise I might turn into Heathcliff.
