I've realized that I don't use this userpic very often and now I'm wondering why that is because it's a very pretty userpic, probably one of my favorites that I've created. (Though the rainbow gradient flare is a little much, but especially when I first started using GIMP I was all LOL GRADIANT FLARE YAY!)

I'm in the mood to list things off so here are some of my ramblings.

ten things about my life, some of which no one cares about )
Uh, yeah, pardon my rambling. I think I'm going to be productive now and finish my Roaring Twenties packet for history.

No one will probably be interested, but I just throught I'd share my first foray into fanfiction-type writing since the summer of 2006. (It's Kingdom Hearts-related, though the two central characters are from Final Fantasy.)

fifty aerith/leon sentences - fear their compound/complex-ness! )
Prompts come from the community 1sentence, which I'd try to link to except for the fact that apparently LJ doesn't like me or my linking attempts. I've decided I'm rather fond of this style of writing, though; it's very non-commitment-like. (Makes it sound like I'm having relationship issues with writing.) I've also really been loving Aerith/Leon lately, and I've discovered that they're rather easy to write.

Yesterday I exchanged the second video camera that I got for my birthday for my own digital camera so that I don't have to steal my mum's all the time. It is a pink Kodak Easy Share & it is very pretty. So in celebration, here's a picture of a drawing of two of my characters that I did about a month ago.

daria & elena in somewhat of a sisterly bonding moment )
Daria is on the left and Elena is on the right. Now that I look at it I think that some of the proportions are off, but oh well. Also, it's not colored in because I was afraid I would ruin it. But it is the best drawing I've done.

I'm also almost finished with this week's mini-writing project. I think it'll be about 9,000 words when I'm done, which is pretty decent. I already have ideas for the next project following this one, but I'm kind of reluctant to partake in anymore late-night writing fests, even though I learned this week that I can function perfectly well on five hours of sleep. Staying up late so long takes its toll on my immune system, I think, because I've been feeling off-color all day (which does nothing for homework motivation, let me tell you). I wasn't feeling well during this time last year, too, because I remember on December 7th going to see The Golden Compass with Bella and not feeling entirely well (& the torturous ribbon-shopping incident that followed didn't do anything to help). So I think I'm going to go to bed a little earlier tonight.

Well, I've got to go eat dinner now; my mum randomly decided that she wanted to go see "The Nutcracker" tonight & so I've graciously decided to accompany her. It provides an excellent source of procrastination.

This week has thus far been dominated by three things: (1) the awesomeness of Organization XIII, (2) learning things about by characters, and (3) the fact that I can function perfectly well with only having six hours of sleep. Oh, and how I'm suddenly becoming inundated by plot bunnies, which is a result of all of the above. I've also written nearly 3,000 words in two nights. I haven't really had that kind of progress since writing "Traveler" this past summer. The current piece I'm working on isn't going to be nearly that long, though.

things i've learned about my characters )
& now, thanks to this fanfic, I've become somewhat of an Axel/Zexion shipper, mainly 'cause they're my two favorite members of Organization XIII and the fic makes me want to ship them. It's because the fic has very tastefully done slash, which you don't see a lot of in the world of fanfiction (most of it is all U CAN HAS BUTTSECKS NAO, though maybe that's because I spend too much time over at [info]deleterius). But in this, it took me a moment before I realized, "Oh. I think that was just a sex scene" because it doesn't go into explicit detail. & quite frankly I can do without the details.

I came across a Kingdom Hearts fanfic that is quite possibly up there with The Shoebox Project as Best Fanfiction Ever. It's an Organization XIII fic, showing how the Nobodies of the six apprentices of Ansem the Wise ended up in The World That Never Was, how they form the Organization, and their discovery of Twilight Town and their recruitment of new members. It's just so awesome. The characterization is great, there's parts that I find extremely humorous even though they're not necessarily meant to be funny, and Organization XIII is my favorite part of Kingdom Hearts anyaway. I've read some other Organization XIII pieces that this author has written too, including a great Axel/Zexion one even though I'm not really into the whole "Orgynization XIII" thing (i.e. shipping people within the Organization), although there are some members of Organization XIII (Axel included) that definitely give off some gay qualities. Anyway, the fic is here even though no one will probably be interested.

Perhaps as a result of this, I've had a major plot bunny attack, and currently I have three ideas running through my head. One is an Aneirin/Sidra short piece, in which Aneirin uses adult beverages to get Sidra to make out with him; another involves Antares being a pyro scientist, probably including aspects of his relationship with Leah; the third involves Talia post-Arx Chalybs and her abilities and her friendship with Leon and Freya. So yeah. If only I had more time.

So today in honor of my birthday I was going to make a list of 17 Reasons Why It's Awesome To Be 17, but I could only think of ten and most of them consisted of "[insert character here] was 17 when [insert action here happened]." So yeah. (Though for the record, I'm now the same age as [1] Harry Potter when he defeated Voldemort [2] Yuna and Tidus when they defeated Sin [3] Squall and Rinoa and most of the Final Fantasy VIII crew when they defeated Ultemecia [4] Nathaniel/John Mandrake when he saves London for the last time and [5] Perrin and Julia when they begin their relationship & are involved in the second Arx Chalybs incident.) I'm surprised that I only have one writing reference there. I guess not a lot important happens to my characters when they're 17.

Last night I was watching the season four finale of Lost (gathered around my dad's laptop screen), and zomg Daniel Faraday is so definitely a Woobie. For me, at least. I hope we see a lot more of him next season (he's in the previews, which is a good sign). Also, Desmond/Penny is so squee-worthy. & even Kate/Sawyer are squee-inducing, what with Sawyer being so self-sacrificing and all. I think there should have definitely been an "I love you" "I know" moment there, because Lost isn't afraid to use Star Wars references and it would have fit so well. (& it would have made Kate/Sawyer even more Leia/Han than they already are.)

I discovered two nights ago that I cannot draw males, even from behind. I was trying to draw Perrin and Julia in a nice relationshippy pose (holding hands and looking out toward the ocean), and I was failing so much at drawing Perrin. So I erased it and just drew Julia, though even that didn't turn out so well. It was good for a while, but then I realized that her hair didn't look right (it's WAVY, not BUSHY!) and so I kept erasing and redrawing and it still didn't look quite right. So yeah. I think I should just stick to that one drawing of Elena and Daria that actually turned out well.

This is the first time since Sunday that I've had time to go online that's not doing homework on my mum's computer. This week has been so GAAAH, what with lab reports and essays and research and having to stay late at school because my mum's been working. I'm so glad it's the weekend. Although Sunday is pretty much used up; I have to be a tour guide at the open house at school until 3:00 and then rush over to dance for Act II rehearsal which goes until 5. & then homework and such.

...What the hell, my x key is being silly. Something must be stuck under it. I'll have to be careful getting it out so that I don't end up with gum stuck under the key again (long story there, though no lasting harm was done).

So yeah, I get to be a tour guide at the open house at STA on Sunday. We had a meeting for tour guides during part of last period today, and it turns out that being a tour guide involves been much more of a people-person than I am, but it wasn't as if I really had a choice. It was the only job available when I went to sign up, and since I'm in NHS now I was pretty much obligated to have a job at open house (though I'd much rather be at dance rehearsal, to be honest). I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be an ideal tour guide. Trying to connect myself with the families by making small talk? No, I don't think so. Small-talk is the bane of my existance. I'm probably going to be awful in that department, but maybe I can make up for it by being good at pointing out things & such. Yeah. I'm definitely not a people person. Though I don't think there are many jobs at an open house that don't involve being a people person.

On Monday morning I discovered that the song "Eyes on Me" (the ending vocal theme of FFVIII) sounds utterly ridiculous at 6:15 in the morning. Waking up to Ominous Latin Chanting is fine. Waking up to Ominous Instrumental Music is fine. Waking up to Japanese Techno Pop Video Game Music is fine. Waking up to Cheesy Video Game Romantic Song? Not fine. Even though despite its cheesiness, I really like it. Just not at 6:15 AM. I should just wake up to "Liberi Fatali" every morning because it's freakin' awesome to begin every day with Ominous Latin Chanting. "One-Winged Angel" is also a good song to wake up to, although whenever that happens it ends up getting stuck in my head even more that it already does. Every Latin class, invariably, I get "ESTUANS INTERIUS IRA VEHEMENTI, SEPHIROTH!" repeating in my head over and over. & sometimes when Sephie's being an attention whore, I get "ESTUANS INTERIUS IRA VEHEMENTI, SEPHORA!" and that makes me angry because dammit, Sephie, you are not burning inside with violent anger or whatever the hell that translates to.

Speaking of Sephie, I've had an idea to write a sequel/follow-up of sorts to "Traveler" for the past month or so, except I haven't really had the time or inspiration to work on it. I'm going to try to start it this weekend, though, except I have to try to figure out how to begin. cut for more brainstorming )
One thing that I have done this week writing-wise is to finalize the alphabet used by my characters. I call it the "Sublimely Magnificent Alphabet Mark III," called "SMA3" for short until I can figure out a better name for it. (& unlike the Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mark III, it actually does have a Mark I and Mark II /FFX reference.) It has 34 letters (though some of them stand for more than one English letter). It's kind of cool, because with the way some of the letters work out, the names have so much fewer SMA3 letters than English letters. Perrin's name, for example, is 6 letters in English, but in SMA3 letters it's only 3. That's because spelled phonetically it would be Pairen, and since SMA3 has one letter for "air" and one letter for "en," you get only three letters. If my name were to be spelled out in SMA3 letters, it would be a similar thing, as phonetically it would be Alesen, which would be representated with only four letters: short A, L, ES, and EN. I really do love phonetic alphabets. They make me realize how utterly screwed people trying to learn English are because things can make so many different sounds.

Season five of Lost starts two months from today. I am extremely excited. It's always kind of weird getting new episodes again after a long hiatus, but it's always so awesome. & it's back on Wednesday nights now, which means yay! If they had it on Thursday nights again this year, it would not be good, especially if it was on at 9:00, because that would leave very little time for me to get homework done. ABC has finally decided to arrange things according to my schedule. Also, I'm getting season four for Christmas, which is good because then I won't have to worry about the old tapes anymore, especially the finale tape that randomly has Final Fantasy X popping up during the last scene. I still have no idea how that happened. One of Life's Great Mysteries, I suppose.

[ETA: Just came across a promo poster for season five and ZOMG FARADAY IS SO ADORKABLE. I also just found out that on January 21st we apparently get TWO EPISODES! ;alsdfl;kasjdlkfjsa;lkjf;salkjflksd!]
mickey mouse

Perrin and Julia keep being intimate in my head. I am not pleased. Get a room, kids. (Actually, they're not really kids, because they're 19-ish when they begin to get intimate-like, but whatever.)

I downloaded the opening FMV to Final Fantasy VIII (on my mum's computer because downloads go SO MUCH FASTER with her internet connection) and I have only two words: Freakin'. Epic. I think "Liberi Fatali" has a lot to do with its epicness, but still. Squall and Seifer dueling = awesome. (A side note: Seifer from FFVIII always reminds me of Draco Malfoy. I have no idea why. Actually, I can see why, what with his attitude and his appearance somewhat. That's him in my userpic for reference.)

So as it's November and NaNoWriMo I feel as if I should get some writing in. For me I think it's not going to be as much as National Novel Writing Month as National Get Perrin and Co. Off The Freakin' Island Month. Of course, once I actually get them off the island I'll probably hit a wall too because they'll be tedious things like "Look, it's Coreon!" and traveling by rail-car and such. Hopefully things will begin to pick up once they get to Arx Chalybs and we meet Antares. I've decided that Antares is somewhat of a cross between Daniel Faraday and Sephiroth, which is a really unlikely combination but it works. He's got Faraday's mad scientist bit, minus the adorkable-ness, plus Sephiroth's somewhat psychotic-ness and a habit of killing characters who don't deserve to die. Yeah. It's going to be interesting trying to portray Antares as a not-entirely-villain. Because he's a good person, really. He just has a few issues, like the inability to let go of grudges.

Well, I've got to go check the election results so far. Last time I checked things were pretty close, in that Obama was ahead for a while and then I turned away for a few seconds and McCain was then ahead. Should be interesting.

dear sephie (aka my characters need to stop being attention whores) )So this temporary Halloween layout is winning. Especially the Live Undead Journal bit. Except the red really clashes with my predominately pink/orange default userpic. Ah well. Speaking of Halloween, we were discussing Edgar Allan Poe (and his sketchy/creepy life) in English today, which reminded me of the 8th grade Halloween party with "The Raven," and many miscellaneous readings of "The Tell-Tale Heart." Which then reminded me of the two SBP Halloween chapters, the first of which involves Sirius and James dressing up as McGonagall and Dumbledore (respectively) and Remus scaring the bejeezus out of Sirius with "The Tell-Tale Heart" and the second of which involves James and Lily facing killer pumpkins. Seriously, more of you lot have to start reading The Shoebox Project. It's a good time.

Preparations for my 17th birthday party are underway. Stay tuned for information.

Yesterday afternoon I was innocently cleaning out in between my keyboard keys (don't ask) when Squall (the name of my computer--well, not its official name, because that's "allison." Yes, the name includes the period.) randomly decided to give me a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). It wasn't too tramatizing, as far as "your computer has had a random serious error" screens are, because although I had a writing file open, Word had Auto-Recovered it, and it wasn't as if I was in the middle of anything because I was cleaning between the keys. This has been the first BSOD that I've encountered in a while (though I think I've had them on this computer before). I remember my mum's old computer used to give me Blue, Maroon, and Grey Screens of Death all the time. Those were always fun.

There is dark chocolate in the house now. It is a very dangerous thing to have dark chocolate in the house because I will eat it in a very quick period of time. But it is oh-so-delicious. & it's the brand that I analyzed an ad for in English a few weeks ago (and for some reason, I haven't gotten that assignment back yet, now that I think about it). It also reminds me of a lj interests generator that I did a while ago, in which it analyzes your interests and suggests new interests for you. The first two of my suggestions? Chocolate and old books. It must have thought that I was Remus Lupin or something.

I wish I could draw, because then I would be able to do so much fun artwork with my characters. The only artwork I've done regarding my writings has been cover art for "The Power of Light," which actually wasn't half-bad because I'm somewhat decent at drawing people from behind (as long as their hands are clasped behind their back so I don't have to worry about fingers). But I wish I could draw actual scenes. And then I could have better images of my characters besides "Perrin looks kind of like Sirius in SBP except with a bit shorter hair and a more serious (no pun intended) expression" and "Julia looks kind of like Claire on season one of Lost" and then there are characters like Daria who I can picture perfectly in my head but don't really know how to describe them. So yeah. Anyone want to hire me an artist? Or give me Magic Artistical Abilities?

I have, however, given some of my major characters musical themes. These in particular happen to come from my collection of geek!music (aka pieces from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games). Each character has two themes at the moment. I wish I had some sort of midi-mixing program so that I could combine them to make one somewhat unique theme.
